LASSA

A world where time has stopped…

Lassa or Lhasa (in Tibetan: ལྷ་ ས་,) is the administrative capital of the Autonomous Region of Tibet, in the People's Republic of China. It is located at the foot of Mount Gephel.

Traditionally, the city is the headquarters of the Dalai Lama. Its main attraction is the Potala Palace, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is the birthplace of Tibetan Buddhism. Jokhang in Lassa is considered to be the most sacred center in Tibet. Lassa literally means "place of the gods", although ancient Tibetan documents and inscriptions demonstrate that the place was called Rasa, which means "place of the goat", until the 7th century.

With approximately 200 thousand inhabitants, the city is at an altitude of 3,490 meters above sea level, being one of the highest cities in the world.
