Petra

PETRA

One of the 7 Wonders of the World in an unforgettable trip

Petra originally known by the Nabataeans as Raqmu, is a historic and archaeological city located in the south of Jordan. Famous for its rock-carved architecture and water pipeline system. Another name for Petra is Pink City, due to the color of the local stones.

Possibly established as early as 312 BC as the capital of the Nabataean Arabs, it is a Jordanian symbol, as well as the country's most visited tourist attraction.

Nabataeans are also known for their great skill in building efficient methods of collecting water in arid deserts and their talent for sculpting structures out of solid rocks.

Petra is on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah (identified by some as biblical Mount Hor) in a basin between the mountains that form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the great valley that runs from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba . The site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. Petra was named among one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007 and was also chosen by the Smithsonian magazine as one of 28 places to see before you die.
